My Philosophy
At the Todd Percussion Studio, my core principle is simple: Educate the whole child. Students are most successful when they are treated as an individual, not just another client. I provide a full service approach to ensure that students have a thorough understanding of both music theory and music history on top of our performance technique instruction so that they can make the most out of their educational experience.
It is my goal to ensure that percussionists are exposed to the full spectrum of instruments and styles that our craft provides. Contemporary percussion is the youngest and most diverse instrument family of the traditional sections of the band program, spanning a plethora of mediums, cultures, and skillsets. Although the majority of lessons will revolve around the traditional concert/orchestral percussion techniques (snare drum, keyboards, timpani, accessories etc) students will also have access to marching percussion and world percussion education (steel pan, tabla, etc) as interest and proficiency allows.
At the center of my belief system, I believe that fair and equal access to world class instruction is one the most important factors in a student’s future success. Having spent half a decade creating a robust educational environment for students in low-income communities, I have seen first hand the difference that it can make. It is my mission to create a studio that is inclusive to students from all socio-economic backgrounds within the greater El Paso area.
